Cyclodextrin Inclusion Complex
Cyclodextrin microencapsulation surrounds individual organic molecules inside a ring of starch fibers.
- Cyclodextrin itself is composed of repeating glucose monosaccharides connected in a ring of varying units.
- The size of the ring depends on the number of glucose units (α-CD = 6 units, β-CD = 7 units, and γ-CDs = 8 units). This forms a 3-dimensional hollow shape of an open, tapered cylinder.
- The center of the cyclodextrin ring is water-resistant, which is compatible with most organic molecules, and the exterior prevents degradation during the drying process.
- Encapsulation does not alter the chemical ingredients of the product in any way, and maintains the integrity of each molecule while separating them individually for drying, long term storage, and targeted release

- The CyLoc® cyclodextrin layer protects sensitive active molecules from harmful factors during the drying process such as heat, pH, light, and chemical oxidation.
- Cyclodextrin is insoluble in water and under most digestive conditions, allowing increased delivery of organic molecules throughout the body. When the microencapsulated molecule reaches its destination, the Dextrin® reactor becomes activated to break down the CyLoc® insoluble layer to release its cargo.
