The Challenge
For years, Tesseract Medical Research tried to develop a powdered form of butyric acid that was easily delivered to the gut without the usual bad taste and smell that comes with butyric acid. Even after working with multiple spray drying companies, Tesseract Medical Research could not get a powdered butyric acid with the desired effectiveness and palatability.

APD partnered with Tesseract Medical Research to create an easily absorbed form of powdered butyric acid. Using its cyclodextrin microencapsulation expertise, APD encapsulated each molecule of butyric acid in the cyclodextrin matrix.
The result was an odorless and flavorless butyric acid in a powdered form, which was effectively delivered through the digestive system.
Our Results
With APD’s particle engineering expertise and Tesseract’s proprietary technology, Tesseract Medical Research launched two different butyric acid products — ProButyrate® and AuRx®.
These powdered butyric acid formulations are odorless and flavorless, enabling targeted delivery of butyric acid molecules, resulting in increased ingredient bioavailability and efficacy.
